Fall 2022 New York Fashion Week

Updated: Oct 4, 2022

"Her beauty and her brain go not together." —William Shakespeare

Every year, I find great pleasure in doing a brief write up about New York Fashion Week whether or not I get the opportunity to attend this event. As New York began to open up more and more, Stars, Fashion Designers, Models, Hair Stylist, Stylist, Editors, Buyers, you name it, they were gearing up for, invited to a seat at a particular show or walking the NYFW Runway for the Fall 2022 Fashion season. Even the Mayor of New York, Eric Adams, hosted an elite event at Gracie Mansion to kick-off Fashion Week. This year I'm sure NYFW was the most notable with the highest in person attendance since the beginning of the Pandemic. Let's get started as I tell most of my story through the lense of others....

New York Fashion Week started off with Designer Proenza Schouler on Friday, September 9th and ended with Designer Tom Ford closing the week out on the

evening of Wednesday, September 14th, 2022. You had some Iconic Brands like Carolina Herrera, Fendi, Coach, Tom Ford, Michael Kors, Altuzarra, Christian Siriano, Gabriela Hearst, Fendi, Jason Wu, Peter Do, Prabal Gurung, Sergio Hudson, Tory Burch, Naeem Khan and Tommy Hilfiger just to name a few that were displaying their wares.

Models graced the Runway in bright vibrant color jackets, oversized cardigan sweaters, dresses with hanging fringes, ribbed sweaters, sequins dresses, feathered coats, White Tees styled with jeans, Oversized pants, Motto Jackets, Leather pant/skirts, Thigh high boots w/Mini dresses, Leather trench coats, Peek-a-boo tops and some Environmentally sustainable outfits. The clothes, hair and makeup displayed this year on the runway resembled a resurgance of the 90's trend. There were lots of bright colors that graced the runway for NYFW this season like Pacific Ocean Blue, Burnt Orange, Zesty Lime, Barbiecore Pink, Vanilla Latte Beige, Autumnal Brown, Mellow Yellow, Dark Gray and Off White.

There were shows everywhere in the city but if you were lucky enough to score a ticket to the Tom Ford show, you might have run into Actors/Comedians like Katie Holmes, Chris Rock; Reality Star Nicole Richie, Sports star Carmela Anthony, Singers Ciara, Erykah Badu, or Madonna & daughter Lourdes.

Now if you were able to get your hands on tickets to Michael Kors show, you may have gotten a glimpse of Actors Anne Hathaway, Keke Palmer, Vanessa Hudgens, Models Lori Harvey, Christie Brinkley and daughter Sailor. If you peered into the audience long enough, you may have had the opportunity to catch Anna Wintour and Serena Williams chatting it up in the front row.

Not only were a few of these folks attendees of shows, but they also had the wonderful opportunity to walk in a show at NYFW. You had the likes of Serena Williams, Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz, as well as Erykah Badu walking the Runway at the Vogue Fashion Show.

I just want to take a moment to briefly discuss the various shows that took place during this momentus week. Since I love Old Hollywood Style and Glamour, I thought it befitting to focus on these next two designers. Christian Siriano, an American Fashion Designer, got the opportunity to do a pre-show on September 7th in Elizabeth Taylor’s former townhome with the likes of Janet Jackson in attendance. He created his collection around the Old Hollywood gleaning from legends such as Katherine Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich and Bianca Jagger basing his design ideas around the return to Glamour. Christian Siriano also had some fabulous hats that walked the runway (Ok staircase).

Another show that exuded glamour was the Carolina Herrera’s show. She is a Venezuelan fashion designer known for dressing various First Ladies including former First Lady Michelle Obama. In her Fall Collection, she took to task silhouettes that were tailored and then added a hint of color or a little surprise feature to her designs. Her designs included fabrics such as indigo blue denim, taffeta, silk, with the inclusion of her signature white shirt in her collection.

Although I was unable to attend NYFW this year, my take on it all is that there are a lot of styles/trends to choose from that graced the runway this Fall. Now you can begin adding trendy items to your wardrobe like that Khaki Trench Coat, Cardigan sweaters, Chic Shirt Jackets, Moto Jacket(s), Ribbed Sweaters, Sequins Jackets/Tops, Straight Leg Jeans, White Tees, Loafers, Stylish Hats, Thigh-high boots, Faux Leather Shirts/Bottoms etc. So the trick is to begin weeding through all the trends and pick out what will look best on you, how you can pair it with what you have in your closet (taking into consideration colors, colors, colors) and then begin adding some of those pieces to your Fall 2022 wardrobe.

As we come to the end of this blog, I decided to put together a video to give you a quick recap of the trends, colors, and styles that walked the runway this season.

Enjoy!!
